Ipoh Chicken Rice is a chain of chicken rice shops that originate from Ipoh. I find this outlet to be pretty decent, second only to the one in Jalan Gasing, which has been around for the longest time. As with most chains, food is slightly pricey for chicken rice, but they have a very solid menu and food is very consistent. Being around the area a lot, this is one of my regular places to have dinner, especially on week nights after work. The restaurant condition is quite bad as the floor has an oily feel to it, but I'm not complaining because I always enjoy a good meal here. The steamed chicken is a favourite with nice texture and a killer sauce that goes extremely well with the chicken. Their roasted meats are also good and well above the regular hawker stall standards. They also offer dishes like fried roast pork, tofu with minced pork, vegetables, and more. These dishes are also pretty good. The fried roast pork is above average, I suspect they use leftover roast pork, or the portion of the pork belly that is harder / leaner than the rest. I'm a fan of the tofu with minced pork. At some point they were serving Bento box rice sets with roasted meats and beansprouts, something like a value lunch set but with a Japanese lunch box feel? It was horrible. I don't see it on their menu anymore, but if it is, don't bother ordering it. Get a full portion of meat and rice instead, you'll get a lot more satisfaction out of that.

I tried the chicken, kuey teow with soup and also the roasted pork here. This is my second top chicken rice place in KL or PJ.The top on my list is a corner shop in Jalan Gasing. The chicken is very smooth and juicy, and the clear taste of cooked salty sauce matches it perfectly. I like that the clear kuey teow soup is very full-flavoured and when slurp it in with the smooth kuey teow the sensation is really good. The roasted pork was just so-so though, a bit pricey in my point of view. Overall the meal was about RM20 per person, which I feel is rather pricey for an average meal. RM15 would be a better price plus drinks.
